GOLD COAST PR COUNCIL Announces Nominees for This Year’s Bernays Awards, Honoring Excellence by Local Public Relations & Marketing Professionals

GCPRC’s Prestigious Presidents Award Goes to Sandy Collier for Bahamian Relief After Hurricane Dorian

 

(Boca Raton, FL – May 27, 2020) Debbie Abrams, president of the Gold Coast PR Council (GCPRC), South Florida’s largest independent association of public relations, communications and marketing professionals, today announced the list of this year’s Bernays Awards nominees. GCPRC have given out these awards since 2005 honoring excellence in local public relations campaigns, marketing programs, and media coverage.

The honors will be presented at the 15th annual Bernays Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, July 21, at the Delray Beach Golf Club, 2200 Highland Avenue 33445. This will be GCPRC’s first in-person meeting since February due to the Covid pandemic.

GCPRC will present Bernays Awards in 13 categories, nine of which are competitive and four selected by the nonprofit organization’s board of directors.

Sandy Collier, GCPRC President’s Award Winner 2020

Only one award is ever announced in advance, GCPRC’s prestigious Presidents Award, which is given to a person or organization for truly outstanding performance. This year’s Presidents Award goes to Sandy Collier of Hey Sandy! PR & Communications in Wellington for her amazing work on behalf of evacuees from The Islands Of The Bahamas following the deadly and destructive ravages of Hurricane Dorian, including organizing a special dinner and breakfast to help ease their agonizing stress.

Previous winners of this award include the South Florida Sun-Sentinel for its brilliant and sensitive coverage of the Parkland school shooting and the ongoing aftermath/2019Elizabeth Kelley Grace and Julie Mullen of The Buzz Agency/2017; cultural reporters Rod Hagwood (Sun-Sentinel)Jan Sjostrom (Palm Beach Daily News), and Leslie Streeter (Palm Beach Post)/2016; publishers John & Margaret Mary Shuff (Boca Magazine)/2015Florida Weekly and The Coastal Star/2014, etc.

In addition, two other Board selected awards will be announced at the Luncheon: PR Star, which goes to a person or organization that made an extraordinary splash last year, and the Founders Award, which goes to a person or organization that has made a lasting contribution to GCPRC. A Judge’s Award, selected by the 2020 judging panel, may also be given.
